Source Article – World of Warcraft Druid reaches 90 without a kill - http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/10/14/world-of-warcraft-druid-reaches-90-without-a-kill/
On October 14th 2012, something amazing happened. The World of Warcraft garnered another pacifist character who went from level 1-90 WITHOUT killing any creatures, only doing 92 damage, and only one quest being completed with that quest being autocompleted at level 86. Irenic hit the left cap by exploring the world of Azeroth (which generates experience), gathering professions (which generates experience), and Archeology (which generates experience). These stats makes Irenic, a Tauren Druid, join the ranks of the most pacifistic and oddly leveled characters within the World of Warcraft. Irenic isn't the only one to accomplish this feat as there are many other characters who have leveled their own way making it a personal challenge. There was Everbloom, a Night Elf Druid who leveled from level 1-85 in Cataclysm using much the same methods, Noor, a Gnome Rogue who leveled from level 1-70 in The Burning Crusade using the same methods, and Gutrot, a Troll Warrior who leveled from level 1-70 in The Burning Crusade entirely naked (no armor, no weapons, no helpful items).
Obviously there are a few more characters that have leveled with their own personal challenges imposed on them, What I find incredibly interesting is how these players play the game to suit their needs. They don't play to get participate in Dungeons or Raids, they don't play to participate in Battlegrounds or Arenas, they played specifically to level up with the most challenge possible. It really let's me look at the game with a new light after reading these stories over the years. I have tried a challenge like this once. I tried to level a Orc Mage back in The Burning Crusade without dying. I hit level 34 and failed miserably. I have a deep respect for these people. They play this game by THEIR rules. They don't see this as a game. They see this as an opportunity to try something new and have fun playing their own way.
I think that is the central point we as gamers need to remember. We need to remember that specifically. It's just a game. Nothing special about it. We need to have fun and enjoy playing the game, regardless of how we do that. If playing the game different is how you have fun, don't let anyone tell you wrong. Video Games can be played in any way. Your game, your rules, your methods, you enjoyments.
