The Importance Of A Good Mouse And Keyboard

Gaming peripherals are a large part of games today PC games in particular. There are even a few companies that dedicate a lot of time and energy to making the perfect peripherals for the different games that have different needs. For example the keyboard needs of someone who plays a lot of First Person Shooters' (FPS's) will be different then a person who plays a lot of Massive Multiplayer Online (MMO) games.

Lets start with membrane keyboards. A membrane keyboard is most likely the keyboard you are using now it uses a flexible membrane layer. When you push a button or key it depresses the membrane layer and touches the circuit board that registers the key being pushed. The bad thing about this keyboard is that it doesn't last vary long (only about 5-10 million strokes) and only a small number of buttons can be pressed at once most commonly three. This can cause some major issues while in the heat of battle. The good thing about this type of keyboard is that its pretty cheap and good if your on a tight budget.

Then there are mechanical keyboards. These are better in numerous ways. One of those ways is that there life span is a lot longer (50 million strokes). Another benefit of a mechanical keyboard is that you can press in excess of ten keys simultaneously and it will register all of them witch makes fast paced games a lot better because you don't have to worry about how many keys your pressing at once. One of the down sides of these keyboards is that they are usually a bit more expensive then a membrane keyboard.

As far as mice go there sensitivity is a major part of what makes a good gaming mouse. The sensitivity is measured in Dots Per Inch (DPI). Naturally the higher the DPI the higher the sensitivity. This is good because it allows the user to respond quicker to situations witch can make the difference between life and death. However DPI is no the only thing that makes a good mouse. Another contributing factor is macros. Macros are extra buttons that you can assign to do just about anything, for example say I'm in an MMO and I always use my skills that are assigned to numbers one, two, and three I can set up a macro on my mouse so that when I push one button and I will push one, two, and three in sequence. This is good because it make life a lot simpler and you can pull off combos faster and more effectively
