Single Player games in the market

The quantity of single player games on the market have slowly been decreasing over the years for publishers don't feel there is a big enough market in the field and aren't willing to take the risk. One common belief of publishers is that the world they create will be lonely without a friend to play with, and thus all games should be multiplayer, but I believe that if your world is truly lonely(And loneliness and fear is not an emotion that has been planned by the developer) then you, the creator, have made a poor quality world. One should feel welcomed by the world they are presented with. I would suspect that the most immersive of all the games you've played was probably a single player experience. Being alone certainly helps with immersion, as if you where with a friend the constant interruptions of jokes and chatter between you and whoever you're playing with keep you distanced from the games world. For example, while I am not particularly fond of horror games I will pick on amnesia as it has become quite heard of at this time, this game puts you in a dark world meant to drive you into fear. When all of your attention is pulled to the game, the sounds of the hero experiencing fear brings it to you, the details become a lot more terrifying when you aren't in a discussion with a friend about how silly it all is(just an assumption that if you are friends you will be making witty jokes to each other) or other things. If loneliness was truly tied to unhappiness, then many of the games we see and play wouldn't even exist, programming, art an other forms of media require concentration and can be very difficult to work on with others watching and remarking on every aspect of what you do. Groups can sometimes help with this, but it is important to have a balanced lifestyle, and balanced selection of games between lonely and collaborative.  There is still hope for single player games, many indie publishers are still able to take the risk of creating a single player game as they don't have to pay hundreds of workers whether the project succeeds or fails. Some examples include Amnesia: The dark descent, Fez, Super meat Boy, Tiny and Big: Grandpa's Leftovers(a great game featuring some very unique game mechanics I might add), and Bastion. These games can't afford the advertizing of higher budget games, but are still excellent pieces of work, worth putting your time into.
