The Misconceptions of Pro-Gaming

Many people already have the idea that pro-gamers are people who just got luck and are now being paid loads of money for sitting doing very little. In reality gamers who make a living off of gaming have to both take a lot of risks and put a lot of time, rivaling that of owning a business, just to try their chances at making some money.
Pro-gaming is considered the dream job for most hardcore gamers, being the carrot on the horizon to keep them pushing their skills to the absolute limit. The definition of a pro-gamer is someone who makes a living off of playing games. To reach this point people have to train for long periods of time, both physically and mentally.
One of the biggest misconceptions is that if you play at a game long enough, you can start making money off of it just by continuing to play. This is wrong for a number of reasons; one of the biggest is the competition that opposes anyone who wants to be making a living off of gaming. If someone gets good at a game, there will naturally be others who will try to get better and beat them.
If someone is to get into gaming as a career and has the skill to do so, the next step is finding a market that is interested in watching what they do.  This is how all tournaments work as they are meant for spectators and players to watch the highest players go head to head to see who the best is. When it is just a single person solo-casting or playing by themselves, they have to find their own niche that they can carve into to interest people.
Another large misconception that is widely spread is that once you become pro you will be raking enough money to do just about anything, however, if you look at people like Sean “Day 9” Plott, you can see that this is not true. Sean Plott is an ex-pro gamer and now one of the most renowned casters in the world yet he has noted that he is still in debt to school loans and various other typical things such as rent that other people experience.
Pro-Gamers have to struggle a lot, against so many different oppositions that making a lot of money is incredibly hard. When someone reaches a level which can clearly be stated as ‘Pro’, it’s worth it to think of the hard journey they had just to reach that position, not to mention the other difficulties that they would have just to make enough to make a living. Pro gamers have their work cut out for them, but when you think about it, that journey just may be worth it in the end.
