Awe is the result of respect felt through fear or wonder, and it’s an important reason why so many have dwelled into the world of gaming. The results felt from an awe inspiring moment evoke particular emotions, ones that usually end with our bodies going into something called fight or flight. It hasn’t been until recently that video games have been able to create these moments their limitations being technological. Slowly but surely the chains of restriction broke as technology progressed, making the “I can’t believe this is possible” moments a reality.

If you own a PS3 then for the love of gaming if you don’t have a copy of God of War, or haven’t played it, a man like Liam Neeson from Taken will find you and the rest is history. When it comes to jaw dropping moments, the God of War series did it to the best of their abilities. Even the premise of the game is enticing, it follows a Greek Warlord named Kratos, who is hell bent on taking his vengeance to mount Olympus for what the Gods have done to him.

If there was one fatal flaw all the Gods shared, it was their underestimation of a man who had nothing to lose. One by One, they all fell to their knees before him, most would snicker that the next God would end Kratos’ onslaught, but that was never the case. The thing that truly made God of War 3 memorable though wasn’t the fact that it followed a man who ran around killing Gods and Titans, it was their presentation of the Enemies and the way they were brutally sliced and diced.

When one plays God of War, they soon realize that there are only a handful of things or people they can’t kill, or don’t want to kill. The first thing that comes to mind when the Titan Cronos picks Kratos up, and Kratos is only a spec on the Titan’s fingernail is “This thing is massive”. Player’s then realize that they have to figure out how to kill something that dwarfs them to say the least. The sheer King Kong like style of the Titan was awe inspiring; rendering players wide eyed staring at the Harbinger of their eminent doom. With their heart sinking, palms clammy, it becomes time for that fight or flight response, I say fight.
