Age Gates, No More

http://www.gamespot.com/news/esrb-tones-down-age-gate-rules-6405220

The ESRB (Entertainment Software Ratings Board) has toned down the age restrictions for Mature rated game trailers online. We all know how frustrating it is to enter your date of birth (I normally end up being 96 years old) and I am glad to see these restrictions lifted. In place of the age gates the ESRB is going to put in a 4 or so second clip showing viewers that the game is rated M and there may be violence among other things. This will be similar to that green screen you're used to seeing before movie trailers.

This is going to be great for gamers who are above the age of 18 and just want to watch the damn trailer. I mean, even if I was under 18 I would still but a bogus birthdate just so I could gain access to the trailer. Which I'm sure most kids are doing anyways. This will definitely make things harder for the parents out there (at least the ones that actually pay attention to the ESRB ratings and monitor what their children watch on the internet). For them they will have to pay even closer attention to the trailers that their children watch. Personally this was never a problem for me, I was always allowed to play pretty much what ever I wanted.

Once again this ties back to "violence in video games". Take a look at the short video at the bottom of this article and you will see why I put that in quotations.

More to this, the ESRB have also declared that ratings from the ESRB and other rating boards from around the world can now be shown next to each other.
