Are games better when they are formed around a basis of a great movie, or are movies better when they're made from a game? Video games have been made into movies such as; resident evil , Mario Bros, Street Fighter, Pokemon, Tekkan, Mortal Kombat, Silent Hill, Doom, Max Payne, Prince of Persia. Some of these movies have had a revolutionary impact on the movie industry, some haven't.
Blizzard has been working on a movie based on their famous MMO, World Of Warcraft. Although most of the company being a mix of game dev's and not movie producers or script writers for movies is a little unfulfilling. Sam Raimi the director of the renowned Spider man movies was previously working on the WoW movie, I say previously because there had been a problem with blizzards management team and how they handled the movie.
My question is when a game company tries to make a movie title, should they let the director do as he please or should the company hold "total veto power" to any design and structural decisions? Because blizzard had so much "veto power" the movie was being constructed and after 9 months of developing the movie they shut it down because, they "didn't like it".
In my opinion there should be some leeway between the game company and the director / movie producers. Let the professionals do their job; it's what they are trained for and what they went to school to learn how to do it better than anyone else.
