Fun Games, Serious Games...Both?

http://gamasutra.com/blogs/BenServiss/20130307/188002/Fighting_Indecision_And_So_Much_More_with_Games.php

When people think of games they immediately think of something that can be enjoyed, waste time, or fry your brain but they don't consider the power of games. However, we may take more out of games then we realize. Some games these days are being made to help people who have gone through physical or mental trauma. Others are being made as training tools for surgeons learning to perform a specific type of surgery. Either way the technology is here and it has caught the attention of many.

No one really likes to think outside of the box when it comes to games. One of the games mentioned in this article is Equinox. I have played this game before but I never realized that this game could be used as a tool to fix indecisiveness. The fact that you have to make multiple decisions within a matter of seconds without thinking about it is terrifying to some people. I know of a few people who could benefit from this game and who I would like to experiment on.

On the other side we can relate this subject to the fact that games are suspect to cause violent behaviour. If you play a first person shooter for a long time you will eventually learn a fair amount about weapons. Or if you play a fighting game, you may learn a few moves here and there. Most people who think violence in video games is reflected onto our lives will agree with this. However, I feel as if there is more behind it then just playing a video game and then killing a bunch of people. Yes, I did just say that.

Anyways, like I was saying we are seeing more and more "serious" games being created these days. I think this is because we have come to realize that there is more to video games then just the pure fun aspect. We can accomplish greater things and we can help people with video games.
