Recently Nintendo has found themselves it a bit of dodo. They have
been found guilty of infringement on their 3D technology, but
nevertheless, they aren't afraid that this will cause them any bad
juju. The 3D technology that lets you see the girl's tutu in 3D was
originally patented by a former employ of Sony. Seijiro Tomita, the
former Sony employ, sued Nintendo for $30.2 million over their
infringement no-no.
As much as this might not harm Nintendo in anyway, $30.2 million is
just a drop in the bucket. But this goes to show, you need to do your
research about every little detail before you release your product, no
matter how big or small you are. They might have done it to avoid
write him into a contract so they didn't have to pay him as much, but
nevertheless you need to make sure that you won't get in a serious
legal battle over infringement.
Nintendo ma y not flinch over this, but there is a valuable lesson
behind this. Lesson one is to do your research! Don't let any rock go
unturned, this will save you a lot of money in the long run.
