Researchers are finding that Video Games are changing a person's brain for the better. A growing body of university research shows that gaming improves creativity, decision-making and perception. As well as improved hand eye coordination and improved night time driving.
Research also shows that people who play action based games and computer games made decisions 25% faster than other without sacrificing accuracy. The more advance the gamer is the more choices they can make in less amount of a time than other people that do not play games. The studies were conducted indepently of the companies that sell video and computer games.
Although due to popular belief that video games cause people to become violent and aggressive, there is no solid evidence to prove this. The other popular belief is that compulsive gaming causes people to become over weight, introverted and prone to depression. Although these independant studies were not compared to any other studies.
Parents always worrying about their children becoming violent due to videogames. A computational analyst Joshua Lewis explains that "There has been a lot of attention wasted in figuring out whether these things turn us into killing machines, not enough attention has been paid to the unique and interesting features that videogames have outside of the violence."
There was a three year study on 491 middle school students. Showing that the more children played computer games the higher the scores on a standardized test of creativity. Regardless of race or gender or the kind of game played. Researchers believe that the violence in video games give people a good learning effect, whether or not they know if it is the violence in the game or not that affects people is a different story.
The reason that gamers have such an large advantage over non-gamers is because of how they adapt to the virtual world. Solving problems and devising ways to win the game. Gamers also are more social due to the fact that they interact with people all the time when they play these online games.
So the next time your parents tell you to stop playing games, you can tell them that its helping you learn. Research it mom and dad.
