The Death of Final Fantasy: a Big Fuck You to the Franchise

The Cash Cow or should I say, The RPG (Role Playing Game) Final Fantasy, just celebrated its 25th Birthday. If this game was as impressive as it was back in 2002 and earlier, then maybe people would actually give two fucks about this feat. Not saying that the Final Fantasy franchise is terrible, it started off really great, however the franchise has really let itself go downhill. The flame that is almost burnt out of a franchise is attempted to be kept alive by slapping the FF logo on a mediocre game . The sad thing, people are actually buying this crap because they are avid fans of the franchise. That my friends, is milking a franchise for every penny its worth.
Ahh nostalgia, a word that is used loosely nowadays, explains most peoples feelings for FF franchise. Like Legend of Zelda and Mario, people grew up with these games and relate it to good times in their child/adulthood. I too can relate, FF along with Zelda were my childhood. Final Fantasy not so much of my adulthood though, after 11, it just became so predictable, the storylines were meh and the combat was just bleh, in my opinion. Needless to say, Final fantasy is a shell of its former self and I don't think the franchise will ever be able to recover.
Sid Meier had once stated that the game is a " series of interesting decisions". The only compelling decision you will be making now is How much money you'd like to give to Square Enix. What's next for the franchise? Final Fantasy: Fuck You, Give Us Money, might as well be the title for the newest game that came out last week for the iOS. Although that title has more truth in it, the actual marketed title is Final Fantasy All The Bravest. This app cost $ 3.99 from the app store, I would not even spend that much on it. This game is an app with many microtransactions in it. The payments are optional, but if you want to keep playing the game, without taking anywhere from a 3 minute to two hour break from it, its to pay if you die. The game has no strategy in it, so retrying the fight is really no use if you die. In order to continue without waiting, you have to pay Square Enix real money to play.
It's sad to see what happened to one of the greatest game franchises. More than anything, its sad to see that Square Enix is toying with its consumers nostalgic heartstrings. They KNOW people will buy anything Final Fantasy, and they are raking in the dough. I doubt they will never stop producing FF games. It's disappointing to see that their games are only made in the pure enjoyment of their personal bank account and not for the avid FF fans. It's time for us all to accept that Final Fantasy is no longer Final Fantasy and is a never ending Cash Cow that may throw in a random FF melody to rekindle our nostalgia. It's disgusting, but we just have to hang on tight to our fond memories and move on.
