Mobile games are taking over the gaming industry. Majority of the American population has atleast a smartphone, as they have become a necessity in life.Games like Draw Something, which has pulled in $250,000 a day and was purchased for $200 million, these numbers are in no way surprising with how society has been bandwaggoning on these portable phone games. With the success of mobile games how has it been affecting society? How has it affected personal relationships?
Mobile games are becoming more and more popular due to the fact that they are mobile, but statistic show (according to the Mocospace surveys) that 96% of these mobile gamers play at home anyways.53% being in the bedroom. Which may mean that instead of reading before calling it a night or talking to your significant other. According to a research done by Kevin Parcell, he shares his insight about how mobile games have affected relationships. "As a minister I've done a fair amount of marriage counseling. Many marriages struggle due to lack of communication and not enough sex. Guess where we do those two things the most. Sex is obvious, but couples communicate deeply more in bed than anywhere else.
It makes sense since many never see one another till they go to bed at night. I used to ask couples how much they watch TV or read at night in bed instead of talking or getting intimate. I guess now I'll have to add Angry Birds and Real Racing HD to the list."
To sum that up, basically people are playing more games and having less sex. People are preferring to play their Angry Birds and Real Racing HD rather than having sex. What has the world become? Espiscially since most popular games in the industry are Social games, such as Words With Friends and Draw Something.
Although the Mobile industry is suppose to help bring people together, it is doing the opposite. Ruining relationships because one or both of the partners prefer to shoot some birds at pigs rather than having intimite relationship. With Mobile games expanding at this explosive rate, is it going to be the bane of society? Something that was suppose to keep society together is it ripping it apart instead?
